Limoneira buys majority stake in Chilean citrus grower

California-based fruit company Limoneira has acquired a majority holding in the northern Chilean citrus producer Pan de Azucar (PDA) for US$5.8 million to further expand its Chilean operation. PDA has lemon and orange orchards covering 210 acres in the La Serena area and with the majority of the trees in the orchard being young Limoneira are expecting to grow annual production as a result of the trees increasing output as they mature.

“Along with expanding our participation in the growing global lemon business, this enables Limoneira to provide citrus on a year-round basis to our customers around the world and evaluate future potential investment opportunities in Chile’s vast, productive agricultural properties.” Limoneira senior vice president Alex Teague said.
